TASS employees work with TomTom

Project Description:
TomTom was looking for a quick and easy way to understand the bottlenecks within the hardware and software of their products. This will help the software development process, which must be closely matched with the capabilities offered by the hardware.

Problems:
Specifically, our TASS employee was asked to ensure that software and hardware developers could work faster and more effectively. A tool that makes clear whether the hardware and software are matched optimally, and in combination do what they are supposed to do.

Solution:
To realize this, the development environment MULTI (Green Hills Software) was used. The infrastructure of its debugger is reinforced by a TASS software professional to meet the TomTom requirements.

Probes connected to the processor result in maximum control over the processor, even without the availability of an operating system. Then, by adding automatic processor and project recognition, the debugger’s features are optimally used. Because the environment has extensive scripting facilities it can be used for automating (system) tests. Any errors in the software or hardware can be quickly located with this debugger, so the engineer can immediately focus on solving the problem. When the functionality of the product is verified and validated by the test tool, the application can be realized.

As mentioned, TASS used the development environment MULTI to implement this functionality. During this process we have gained new insights, which led to improvements that have been adopted by Green Hills Software to improve the environment. The environment is used at TASS as well as by students who are graduating at TASS. Because of this TASS has extensive knowledge of the capabilities of this developing environment.
